NAME: Shuji Miwa
AGE: 17
CANON: World Trigger
CANON HISTORY: His next-door neighbors are fine.
CANON PERSONALITY: More than anyone, Miwa loved his sister. When she died, he lost interest in a large part of the world and relied on hatred to function; he threw himself into work as a Border agent, adopting the doctrine of "eliminate all Neighbors" and hunting his targets regardless of age or gender - shooting Kuga, who looks like a 12-year-old boy, at point-blank range in the face without batting an eyelash. Because he associates them with suffering, Miwa's ruthlessness toward Neighbors stems from the desire to erase a harmful existence more so than actual malice, although his methods can certainly be harsh.
A straightforward person himself, Miwa despises devious types on principle, and this has been the cause for his clashing with some of his fellow agents. When Jin and Tachikawa claim to be worried about his squad in different instances - both with a conceited smile - Miwa bristles at what he perceives to be insincere comments for the sake of derailing the conversation. On the other hand, he gets along swimmingly with the ever direct Yoneya, no matter how inane the latter's topics of choice. While he isn't confrontational, Miwa is rather obvious when he disagrees with a person's nature, as it takes great effort for him to pretend otherwise.
Due to a combination of the above, Miwa can be judgmental and opinionated; however, he never touts his views as superior, only as "obvious." When he learns that Jin had lost a parent in the Neighbor attack, Miwa's understanding of Jin as a person shifts; he drops his enmity and returns an expression of concern, the change being so drastic that it turns heads from other agents. While Miwa has a clear standard by which he judges others (as well as himself), he is capable of adjusting his way of thinking when challenged with reasonable evidence.
On the flip side, sometimes a challenge doesn't make sense, and Miwa struggles to cope once his foundations are shaken. When Border accepts Kuga as an agent, thereby going against all of his core beliefs, Miwa is unable to rationalize why an anti-Neighbor organization would fraternize with one. The stress of the contradiction marks his next appearance with unkempt hair and prominent bags under his eyes, and he even considers skipping a meeting, simply because he doesn't feel well. Although he tends to suffer in private, his upfront nature makes his internal struggles incredibly transparent.
As honesty comes integrity, Miwa is also a firm proponent of doing his part. People who plead for help without helping themselves annoy him, and he kicks Mikumo with the choice words of "I don't care. Don't rely on others," when Mikumo tries to pawn Chika off on him for her safety. Miwa does, however, stall the Neighbors in pursuit instead, and he rejects any claim that he did it to help them. He does what he believes he should and expects others to carry their own weight, which are principles that reflect his simple yet strict beliefs.
All in all, Miwa is a good kid. He treats his elders and comrades well, and he picks up fallen change for Kuga in Border HQ. Outside of Neighbor affairs, he has an even temperament; there's great kindness buried beneath his socially passive veneer and hatred toward Neighbors. Perhaps the greatest tragedy lies in the fact that his sister's death has severely dulled his drive for the future, insofar that the intelligence he demonstrates in battle has no place elsewhere, as he has no plans outside of high school and Border.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: As a squad leader, Miwa is skilled in command and tactics. He has an analytic eye and uses sound judgment in battle.
All Border agents are outfitted with a holder, which contains chips known as Triggers. Triggers are powered by Trion - a special type of energy produced by an invisible organ next to the heart. Border favors versatility over raw power, and Miwa's personal configuration as an all-rounder is as follows:
Upon Trigger activation, Miwa's flesh body is replaced by a Trion replica. The Trion body is impervious to non-Trion damage, equipped with a radar and built-in communicator, and significantly stronger than the human body in all respects; however, its fatal weaknesses are the head and the chest, where the relay and supply systems, respectively, are stored.

AU NAME: Hizuru Miwa
AU AGE: 19
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: 179 cm tall (as opposed to 174 cm in canon)
AU HISTORY: Originating from Japan, Hizuru's parents (an engineer father and a teacher mother) had long settled in Recollé by the time they took the vacation to their homeland, during which he was born. After his overseas birth, his family returned to raise him in Recollé, where he continues to live a comfortable middle-class life with minimal drama. He is fluent in English with a rudimentary grasp of Japanese, and slightly allergic to cats.
As a child, Hizuru was very accustomed to life in Recollé. Content and comfortable with who he was, he lived day to day going to school and then helping his mother out at home afterward. While closer to his mother due to the sheer amount of time they had together, he was deeply respectful toward his father; he also enjoyed the frequent company of a family friend and neighbor, Anya, a much more social character whose ability to speak with anyone apparently rubbed off on him just a smidgen.
As he grew a little older, Hizuru's views broadened and he became more self-aware of his identity. Wanting to better understand his parents' culture instead of going through the motion of practiced customs at home, he started investing himself in the Japanese culture. Sometime in college, he would enlist a tutor to learn the language as well.
Throughout his entire lower education experience, Hizuru was ever the diligent but otherwise average student - not scoring poorly, yet also not standing out overmuch. Once he entered high school, where his parents brought to question the subject of his future (to which the resounding answer was, "I'm not sure"), he initially gave consideration to his slight aptitude for explosive energy by turning to sports-related tasks. Although he found being a part of the fencing team to be enjoyable, he later decided that he didn't want to make a living out of an athletic field, and returned to his basic daily exercises to focus on other pursuits after graduation. Because college seemed like a good place to find such a focus, he applied.
Around this time, one of the local bakeries struck him as an an ideally quiet but still sociable environment for interacting with people - and he liked cookies more than he should - so Hizuru took to it for a side job. One might say that it doubled as a small step toward being more independent by generating pocket change for himself.
Now a sophomore in Recollé University with the occasional tutoring session, Hizuru struggles to find a career that interests him. He goes through the motions of attending to his daily obligations, but remains troubled over his undeclared status and lack of direction.
AU PERSONALITY: Hizuru has not experienced the traumatic loss of a loved one, and so he lacks the drive that propelled his original incarnation through the ranks of Border. For the same reason, he doesn't nearly have as many strong opinions or as much vitriol toward subjects he finds distasteful, and there are certainly no neighbors he wants to beat up. For the most part, Hizuru is calm yet aimless, and much softer around the edges as he has not known true hardship to fuel his temper.
As opposed to being so passive that Miwa wouldn't prolong an idle discussion, Hizuru is a more active conversationalist. Although reserved by nature, nothing in his present life has prompted him to be closed off from the rest of the world. He's more likely to voice his questions and thoughts, even if he still qualifies as the quiet type, and also to give into people's requests (within reason).
On the other hand, because he has lived a relatively carefree life with more time for personal growth, Hizuru is less inclined to fall apart so utterly and completely when the proverbial rug is swept out from under him. More resilient and assured, he has the maturity in both years and circumstances to handle unpleasant surprises. This doesn't make him any stronger against the effects of stress, but he's, to a point, independent in a wholesome manner befitting a second man of his household.
Last but not least, Hizuru's upbringing in Recollé with his parents as the primary exposure has educated him somewhat on the Japanese culture; however, he still lacks a great deal of awareness for more obscure customs.
